The Challenge:

The Canfield Cardinals’ field had gradually degraded to the point that standing water compromised play for much of the football season. The addition of soccer competition on the field increased the need for a smooth and uniform surface. This surface needed to have a lower percentage of slope, but still needed to shed water in rainy weather, and stand up to competition without loss of turf in high-traffic areas.

The Solution:

By drawing together a team of community leaders and volunteers, Sportscape allowed Canfield High to have a completely reconstructed field at a cost far below the typical new field. The field included new soil, a lower crown, and new sod with a precisely specified thatch layer to protect the turf in wet weather.

After the reconstruction project the Canfield Cardinals' field had become more playable, more beautiful and much easier to maintain.

The Results:

Canfield’s football field has become one of the most consistently playable facilities in its area with an installed automatic irrigation system and drainage structures that maintain the proper moisture level in the rootzone year round.
