Interceptor
Drain
The interceptor drain
is designed to intercept and channel away water that might flow
onto the field from a surrounding area. Interceptor drains are normally
pipe drains that are used in swales or in low lying areas. They
differ from the pipe drains on the field itself in that the trenches
in which the pipes are laid are filled to the top with coarse sand
or gravel to the surface. If the top 6” of the trench is filled
with sand, it could then be covered with washed sod, sprigged, seeded,
or left for the adjacent turf to cover over. It is critical that
the top of the trench not be covered with a layer of impermeable
soil or sod.
