Sand-Filled
Trench Drain
Sportscape’s sand-filled trench drains are effective in solving
drainage problems like wet areas on fields that were originally
built without sufficient slope to promote surface drainage. These
drains are narrow and shallow structures designed to intercept and
remove surface water as it moves across the field. The trenches
are typically 3” to 4” wide and 12” deep, and
are filled to the surface with coarse to very coarse sand (.5mm
to 2mm.). Because these drains are filled all the way to the surface
with sand (and have no topsoil above them), they’re able to
collect and carry away surface water.
The most common type of sand-filled trench drains are strip drains.
They are cloth-wrapped plastic structures an inch wide and 4 in.
to 6 in. deep. The strip drain is placed in the bottom of a trench
and extends halfway to the surface.
